The super 8 group includes A1, B2, C1 and D2. That means:
India (A1),

The super 8 group incorporates A2, B1, C2 and D1- meaning Group F includes

Ireland (A2),
Pakistan (B1),
Sri Lanka (C2)
New Zealand (D1).

A2 was the seeding of Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh got out of the tournament losing both the games, and thus, Ireland is given the A2 seed.

England Outplayed By Netherlands In World T20 Opening Match

ICC World Twenty20 opener creates history when England were defeated by Dutch. In a outstanding last-ball finish, England were thrashed out by the Netherlands by four wickets.
Chasing the target of 162 on an even surface that allowed batsmen to go through with their shots, the Dutch batsmen achieved the target on the last ball with four wickets to spare.
Earlier,England started there match in star batsman Kevin Pietersen’s absence from the playing XI due to an Achilles tendon injury.

For England, the adventurous opening duo of Luke Wright (71) and Ravi Bopara (46) got the team off to a blazing start, bringing up the 100-run partnership inside 12 overs. ten Doeschate, who plays alongside Bopara for Essex, dismissed his county team-mate to trigger a mini collapse for England.
Soon after seamer Edgar Schiferli got rid of the dangerous Owais Shah (5). Wright held fort and continued to play his strokes but did not find any substantial support from the English middle and lower order. So unusual was the English innings that it was deprived of a single six in the innings. Wright’s eight boundaries were complimented by five off Bopara’s blade besides one by Collingwood.
For the Netherlands, Dirk Nannes went wicket-less but conceded an acceptable 30 runs off his four-over spell. ten Doeschate proved to be their most effective bowler with figures of 2-35 while part-timer Peter Borren finished with figures of 1-31.

Nerve overtook the Dutch chase when their batsmen lost lost the momentum in the period immediately after the 15-over mark. A tremendous late burst by England spearhead James Anderson (3-23) pegged things back for the Netherlands but Ryan ten Doeschate held his nerves and stunned Paul Collingwood’s men.

The Netherlands went into the final over needing 7 runs but came up against a fired-up Stuart Broad, who conceded just three runs from the first three balls.

Schiferli was left with the strenuous task of finishing off the game, as the Dutch needed two runs off the last ball. Schiferli hit the ball straight back at Broad and ran for life. Broad collected the ball cleanly in his follow-through but failed to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. The result was disastrous for England as there was no fielder to back up, allowing Schiferli and ten Doeschate to come back for the second run and seal a famous victory at the Lord’s.
It was the fifty-run stand between Borren (30) and de Grooth for the fourth-wicket that held the Dutch innings together and proved to be the difference between the two sides.

ICC World Twenty20: Rohit Sharma shocks Pakistan

Pakistan's innings was like a bad action movie: it started and finished at speed, but went through an extended slow passage in the middle. They did eventually manage to claw their way to 158 for six, but even that looked manifestly inadequate once the Indian openers got up and running.

Virender Sehwag missed this match with a bad shoulder, which left the way clear for his replacement, Rohit Sharma, to deliver a dream of an innings of 80 off 53 balls. He is a baby-faced 22 year-old, and there is nothing stiff or rigid about his batting either.

His hands yield beautifully when he plays a soft deflection, and they move with uncanny speed when he decides to lash one over mid-wicket. India have been looking for a possible replacement for Sachin Tendulkar for years, and here they have a contender.

One might have expected Gautam Gambhir, the more established player, to try to compete with Sharma's virtuosity. Sensibly, though, Gambhir, who made an unbeaten 52, performed a steady supporting role. Given that Sehwag has expressed an interest in moving down into the middle order, it will be interesting to see what happens when he comes back into the team.

After the small crowds and desultory West Indies performances that marred the start of this season, it was good to see such exuberance on and off the field. But England had better watch out when they come to keep their Super Eight date with India (pencilled in for Lord's on Sunday week). Paul Collingwood's men could end up feeling like the away team.

Final Score:

The Oval: Pakistan 158-6 (20 overs; Misbah ul-Haq 37no, Younus Khan 32); India 159-1 (17 overs; R G Sharma 80, G Gambhir 52no). India won by by 9 wkts.

India and Pakistan Cricket Game On

The India – Pakistan match is one of 12 warm-up matches that are taking place on 1, 2 and 3 June at Lord's, The Oval and Trent Bridge ahead of the men’s tournament, which starts on 5 June at Lord’s when the host England takes on the Netherlands.

The ICC World Twenty20 2009 warm-up encounter between India and Pakistan at The Oval on 3 June had been designated as a ‘Catch the Spirit’ match.
ICC President David Morgan said: “The decision to designate the India – Pakistan encounter as a ‘Catch the Spirit’ match follows a recommendation by the ICC Board at its most recent meeting, in Dubai in April.
Funds raised through a variety of means during the game will go to support the families of the victims of the attack on the Sri Lanka team and match officials in Lahore in March, as well as Peace and Sport* projects across the Asian subcontinent.
"The Board wanted to do something to assist the families of the victims of the terror attacks on the Sri Lanka team and match officials in March, and using this high-profile match with a sell-out crowd as a vehicle to do that makes excellent sense.
"Catch the Spirit’ is one of the themes of the ICC’s ongoing centenary year of 2009 and it highlights the respect with which the game is played around the world.

"We are extremely grateful to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the hosts, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Surrey County Cricket Club, for allowing the match to take place under this banner.

"And we are also grateful to ESPN STAR Sports, the ICC's global broadcast partner, which is covering the match, for providing an excellent vehicle for the fund-raising efforts.

"We hope this match, watched by millions both at the ground and around the world will portray cricket in a positive light, make a positive contribution to the lives of those affected by those terrible events in March and contribute to assisting community-based projects across the Asian subcontinent that promote peace through cricket."

Dhoni's Strategy:

Misbahul Haq as "pivotal in the batting line-up" who possesses great cricketing brain, can be inventive, has deceptive strike rate, is good runner between the wickets, plays well with the tail, likes to drive and is a good player of spin in essence a perfect batsman to come up against.

However, Pakistan's pace bowling spearhead Umar Gul is seen as one who "doesn't have patience or big heart," and can lose cool when he is being hit around.

Other key men in Pakistan line-up, like Younis Khan in batting and Sohail Tanvir in bowling are viewed with mixed feeling by the Indians.

Younis Khan is termed as "mentally very strong" who lofts the ball straight and isa good player of spin. However, he is also viewed as a nervous starter, often confused in matter of shot selection and is a good candidate for a lbw decision at the start of his innings.

As for Tanvir, he is praised on a few points such as it's difficult to pick his action, more so in day-night games and has a wonderful yorker, can effect great change of pace and a good fielder off his bowling. However, he is seen as someone who takes things for granted and experiments rather too much.

Another key man Shahid Afridi is termed as "pure match-winner" who likes to hit in the V. However, he is one who "doesn't like to be sledged at"; doesn't like the short-pitched stuff and can't handle spinners very well.

Left-handed opener is praised for being "extremely wristy" and point and cover-point is his area. However, Butt isn't seen fluent on the leg side and his head falls over the incoming ball, making him an lbw candidate.

Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal is one who loves the cut and the pull and "midwicket is his six-hitting area."

However, Akmal can throw away his wicket and has a weakness outside the off-stump, a prime candidate for slip-catching practice.

Cricket World Cup 2011 expected to cost $40 to $50 million

World Cup 2011

The 2011 World Cup, to be held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, is expected to cost the ICC between US$40 million to $50 million according to reports.

The PTI quoted Ratnakar Shetty, the BCCI's chief administrative officer and tournament director, on the figures after he and representatives of other member countries attended a preliminary meeting with ICC commercial manager Jamie Campbell and events manager Christopher Tetley.

"All the expenses are to be borne by the ICC," Shetty said. "The representatives of the member countries were told by the ICC representatives how to take care of the expenses."

Shetty said each country will prepare an individual budget and then a combined budget will be presented to the Central Organising Committee to meet in London in June.

Champions League expanded from 8 to 12 teams.

Champions League expanded from eight to twelve teams and will be held in India in October 2009. The domestic Twenty20 winners of West Indies, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, as well as Delhi Daredevils, will also get an opportunity to participate in the inaugural Champions Twenty20 League, to be held from October 8-23 in India, just after the Champions Trophy.
Lalit Modi, the tournament's chairman, said the prize money for the tournament will be US$ 6 million, and the draw will be held in London on June 23 after which the venues will be finalised.

Delhi have been included on the basis of having topped the round-robin stage of the 2009 IPL. They will be joined by Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the 2009 IPL finalists.

Other 2009 domestic finalists and winners include Victoria and New South Wales (Australia), Cape Cobras and Eagles (South Africa), Otago (New Zealand), Trinidad and Tobago (West Indies) and Wayamba (Sri Lanka). England's Twenty20 Cup only begins on Monday and the finalists will only be decided on August 25.

There will be a total of 23 matches and the teams will be divided into four groups of three each to play on a league basis before the top two teams from each group move on to the second stage. The four top teams from there will play the semi-finals.

Last year's IPL finalists Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will not be eligible. Sialkot Stallions, the winners of Pakistan's domestic Twenty20 tournament, will not feature as originally scheduled because their government has restricted travel to India.

"Unfortunately, the Pakistan government won't give them clearance to come to India, and since yesterday was out cut-off date, it's not possible to have a team from Pakistan this year," said Modi. "Delhi Daredevils this year have highest points from the league. But from next year, the third team from India will be decided from a play-off between the two losing semi-finalists."

Modi also said that players from the unofficial ICL could also represent their domestic teams, provided they resign from the league before May 31. However, if their domestic sides qualify for the Champions League those players will not be allowed to play as part of a "one-year cooling period".

The tournament was initially supposed to held from December 3-11 2008 in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore but was put off after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The cancellation came as a huge blow for the teams that qualified for the 2008 edition, as they would have received at least US$250,000 as participating fees. Each team gets a minimum guarantee amount for playing in the tournament.

On the night of the IPL final in Johannesburg, Modi said on television that the fourth season of the IPL, in 2011, could feature ten teams instead of eight.

Duccan Chargers(Hyderabad) beats Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL final.

Duccan Chargers Hyderabad beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs to lift the IPL '09 trophy. Electing to bowl after winning the toss Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Anil Kumble took 4 wickets as Deccan Chargers scored 143/6 in 20 overs.
Former India captain Anil Kumble produced a magnificent bowling performance for the Bangalore Royal Challengers but could not prevent the Deccan Chargers from winning the Indian Premier League final by six runs at the Wanderers.

"We were happy to be playing without any big expectation because we were trying to rebuild," Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist said. "Given what we did last year it was a phenomenal effort by everyone in the franchise to turn things around."

Herschelle Gibbs top-scored with an unbeaten 53 while Andrew Symonds was the next best performer with 33 as Deccan reached 143-6 from its 20 overs.

Gilchrist paid tribute to Andrew Symonds, who took two wickets in two balls to undermine Bangalore's run chase.

"He is a great team man. He creates good spirit in the team. He's just a great personality and a wonderful talent on a cricket field," Gilchrist said.

Kumble named man-of-the-match after taking 4-16 in four overs, said the dismissal of Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli by Symonds was a big blow to Bangalore's chase.

"We worked really hard to get to this," Kumble said. "But having said that nobody gave us a chance three weeks ago to be in the final."

"We were cruising. But those two wickets in two balls did it," Kumble said.

Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha takes three wickets for just 28 runs as Bangalore were restricted to 137-9 in reply.
